In meeting with RSS Chief, Jamir calls for ‘total overhaul’

Terming it as a ‘crucial meeting’ with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, former Nagaland Chief Minister and ex-Governor Dr SC Jamir called on the RSS for its ‘needful intervention so that the government of India finally closes down on the peace negotiations and sign a final solution agreement on Naga issues with all Naga underground factions”.

Alleging of what it described as the ‘sabotage or status-quo club who wanted to delay the date with the solution’, Jamir told the RSS leader to ‘impress upon the Prime Minister and Home Minister to finally sign the solution agreement preferably before the end of the calendar year 2026’.

In a note addressed to the RSS Chief which was accessed by The Naga Republic, the veteran Naga leader pointed out that ‘the time has come for the Govt of India and BJP Ministers to bring all groups and ask them whether they shall respect the sanctity of their signatures appended in the Agreements or not’. “Such a step alone can bring final implementation of the solution agreement and resolve the Naga problem once and for all”, Jamir told the RSS chief.

Jamir, who is also a key member of the recently former Concerned Naga Forum of Nagaland (CNFN), reportedly mentioned that ‘people are judging the last two terms of almost 10 years’ of the alliance government of BJP and NPF. Jamir told the RSS Chief that the ‘situation has become rock bottom and the people are going to blame the BJP and indirectly the RSS for propping up the Rio government that have made such a mess of Nagaland’.

Interestingly even as the Jamir-RSS discussion was taking place, Nagaland Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio and the Home Minister Y. Patton called on the Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.

Jamir who met the RSS chief on 10^th September at New Delhi described his interaction as ‘formal’ and of ‘special significance’ in which the veteran leader from Nagaland spelled out some of the ‘immediate challenges before the government of India’.

“The ground reality is getting from bad to worse. Two agreements have been signed…yet there is no sign of the outcome of the agreements”, Jamir mentioned while lamenting that instead of ‘containing the situation the factions have been allowed to grow and today they number 33”. Jamir told the RSS chief that “the attitude of the present government to continue to stay in power by extending the talks at political level is being opposed at all levels…”

“The RSS must take immediate stock of the situation and ways and means of redressal otherwise the situation may develop into another unwanted consequence with global implications”. Jamir proposed “total overhauling of the entire systems of governance” and suggested that this could be possible only when the State is brought under Presidents rule for a spell of one or two years.

Related to this proposal of Presidents rule, Jamir argued that the Nagaland Assembly, Chief Minister and all political parties have already taken the stand that as and when a political settlement is made they would vacate their seats to pave the way for new political arrangements. “The govt of India should avail this opportunity and help restore the normal health of the governance in Nagaland under a Presidents Rule.

Jamir also brought to the notice of the RSS chief, the apprehensions of the Naga community over the Hindutva agenda and pointing out that ‘Nagas are very emotional and are very touchy about our religious identity’. “I would appreciate some kinds of assurance from you that your organization directly or indirectly will never confront Church or Christians”, Jamir told the RSS chief.

Meanwhile according media reports, the RSS Chief gave a patient hearing and informed Jamir that he would most probably travel to Delhi after a week to meet the concerned authorities.
