Tangkhuls Pray For Indo-Naga Peace Process

Tangkhul CSOs and Church Organisations are organising a Tangkhul fasting and prayer summit 2019 at Union Baptist Church, Ukhrul under the theme “Repent and Rebuild”.

 

President of Tangkhul Naga Long, Hopingson A Shimray in his welcome and key note address called upon the people of Tangkhul to come together to seek and receive the blessing of Almighty.

 

He stated that Tangkhuls had failed to love one another and it is time to introspect how do overcome that.  “Who am I and who are we?  Only after understanding this we can come together as one”. He pointed out that we as a Naga or as a Tangkhul, became more united with the coming of Christianity.

 

 

Retired Chief Justice, W. Shishak spoke on the theme “Repent and Rebuild”. He implored the congregation to focus on the Lord and seek his guidance and blessing. He exhorted the gathering to focus their minds and hearts to God and fix their eyes to the Creator and not to Individuals.

This a landmark gathering for the Tangkhul community because this is the first of its kind in the history of Tangkhul whereby irrespective of denominations and affiliations, have come together to pray and fast for the people and the land and to pray for an honourable and early solution of the Indo-Naga Peace process.

 

This summit has also acted as a catalyst in bringing unity among the divided Tangkhul Christian. For the first time, the choir seat was was combinely taken by TBCA and TNBC of Phungyo Baptist Church, Ukhrul. Fragmentation among the Tangkhul Christian, especially, in the Baptist denomination has caused unrest and disunity among the brethren of Tangkhul Christian.

The two day prayer and fasting programme will be held in all the churches of Tangkhul community irrespective of denominations, affiliations or area. A total of 1344 church representatives and village leaders from various nooks and corner of the community had come to attend the prayer summit held at UBC, Ukhrul.

 

Tangkhul MLA

 

The fasting and prayer summit was also attended by MLA of 43-Phungyar Leishiyo Keishing, MLA of 44-Ukhrul Alfred Kanngam Arthur and Khashim Vashum, MLA of 45-Chingai . The summit was also attended by Former Deputy Speaker of Manipur, Preshow MK Shimray, ADC Members of Ukhrul, President of Naga Women Union,  S. Asha and various leaders of Tangkhul community.

 

 

The second day of fasting and prayer summit will begin at 7:00am in the morning tomorrow.
