KOHIMA, JUNE 3 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), under the Home Department, has issued a weather alert cautioning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds expected to impact several areas across Nagaland in the coming days.
An order issued by Commissioner & Secretary, Lhouchalile Viya, the NSDMA cautioned that flash flood risks are likely in watersheds and low-lying areas of the state due to increased surface runoff and inundation, particularly in regions where the soil is already saturated from prior rains.
In this connection, all District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) have been directed to remain on high alert and to issue necessary public advisories to mitigate the risk of weather-related incidents.
The NSDMA also called for proactive measures to ensure public safety and preparedness across all districts.
Citizens facing emergencies due to weather conditions are advised to contact the State Emergency Operations Centre through the following helplines: 1070 (Toll-free), 112 (ERSS extension for Disaster Management), 0370-2291120/22.
The Authority further urged all residents, particularly those in vulnerable or flood-prone zones, to remain vigilant and follow updates issued by local authorities.
