Kohima, August 6 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department today issued a weather alert forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across the state from August 5 to August 9.
According to the NSDMA, almost all districts in Nagaland are likely to experience heavy showers during the period, with Peren, Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha, Zunheboto, Mokokchung, Longleng, Mon and Tuensang expected to receive very heavy rainfall on August 7 and 8.
These showers may be accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas, it said.
It further forecasted intermittent rainfall throughout Nagaland during given time, with possible disruptions due to high winds and lightning.
The NSDMA particularly flagged concerns for lowland and foothill districts such as Dimapur, Niuland, Chümoukedima, Bhandari, Pangti, Tizit and Tuli, where excessive precipitation could lead to waterlogging and flash floods.
Accordingly, the NSDMA has advised the public to remain alert and avoid exposure during extreme weather conditions.
The authority has also urged all District Disaster Management Authorities and line departments to stay on high alert to ensure the safety of life and property during the monsoon season.
