Dimapur, May 25 (MExN): The Phokhungri Area Public Organisation (PAPO) organised a voluntary bamboo plantation drive on May 23 across all 10 villages under its jurisdiction as part of the observance of “Bamboo Plantation Day.”
According to a press release issued by PAPO President P Paratsu, the programme aimed to promote environmental conservation and encourage self-reliance through bamboo cultivation, which it described as a sustainable resource for domestic, economic, and community use.
The plantation drive was undertaken following a resolution adopted during a meeting of the PAPO Central Executive Council (CEC). Village authorities, community leaders, youth organisations, and residents reportedly participated in the initiative.

PAPO expressed appreciation to all villages and individuals involved in the programme, while highlighting the ecological and economic importance of bamboo. It stated that bamboo contributes to ecological restoration, soil conservation, livelihood generation, and the daily needs of rural communities.
The organisation also urged villages and stakeholders to continue nurturing the planted saplings and strengthen collective efforts towards environmental preservation for future generations.
