India reports 81,466 new COVID-19 cases, highest in six months

New Delhi, April 2 (Agencies): New Delhi: India reported 81,466 new COVID-19 cases and 469 coronavirus-related deaths on Friday, the union ministry of health and family welfare said. The fresh cases pushed the country’s tally to 1,23,03,131.

With 469 more corona patients succumbing in the last 24 hours, the fatality count mounted to 1,63,396.

Currently, India has 6,14,696 Active COVID cases, as per the data released by the MoHFW.

India launched COVID-19 vaccination for all people aged 45 and above from April 1, 2021.

The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 6.75 crore on Thursday.

A total of 6,75,36,392 vaccine doses were administered, as per the provisional report till 8 pm on April 1.

These include 88,48,558 health care workers (HCWs) who have taken the 1st dose and 52,63,108 HCWs who have taken the 2nd dose, 93,99,776 frontline workers (FLWs) (1st dose), 39,18,646 FLWs (2nd dose), 4,01,06,304 for more than 45 years old, the MoHFW said.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 24,59,12,587 samples have been tested up to April 1.

In a significant step to exponentially expand the countrywide coronavirus vaccination drive, the Centre has decided to operationalise both public and private sector COVID vaccination centres (CVCs) on all days of month of April. The Centre has written to all states and UTs and asked them to make necessary arrangements to provide COVID vaccination in these CVCs on all days of the month including gazetted holidays during the month of April, the health ministry said.
