SCCSU demands new buses, better roads and posting of Principal

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 2 (MExN): The Sao Chang College Students Union (SCCSU) has written to the Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang and Chairman of Sao Chang College demanding immediate allocation of new buses for the college; immediate posting of a Principal; and repairing of the road to the college.

The SCCSU, in its representation, stated that at present the college has four outdated buses, out of which only three buses are partially functional which has a capacity of around 80. The college has an enrolment of 668 students.

The SCCSU informed that 70% of the students miss class everyday, which jeopardizes their academic career. It also noted that some students missed the recent internal exam due to the un-availability of college buses. The recent break fail incident of the college bus on August 30 and the same incident in 2022 have inculcated a sense of terror in the minds of the students to travel in those outdated buses, the union said.

Further, the union pointed out that the college is functioning without a Principal for 4 to 5 years till date. It informed that the council has served several representations regarding posting of Principal at the college. However, the concerned authority has chosen to stay blind eyes and deaf ears to the genuine needs of the college, it said.

Meanwhile, the union pointed out that since the college is located 7.5 kilometers away from Tuensang Town (College Bus Stand), the students’ faces untold hardships to attend college by foot. The road condition from Tuensang town till the college is in deplorable condition and walking by foot is a nightmare for the students, the SCCSU stated. It added that college buses break down most of the time midway and since there is no alternate means of transport; the students have to walk down by foot. It called for immediate repair of the road from Tuensang town till the college campus.
