The effect of the Agnipath Scheme and subsequent protests in other states was felt in Nagaland on June 21 as hopefuls, who passed the preliminary recruitment tests, went on protest mode. The prospective career soldiers assembled from different parts of the state and also from Assam protested outside the Rangapahar Military Station (RMS) gate and submitted a representation addressed to the Army Recruitment Office, RMS.

In the representation, the protesters, who identified jointly as “CEE (Common Entrance Exam) Candidates,” demanded the holding of the written exams within 3 days given that their batch have successfully gone through the physical and medical tests conducted during the March 2021 mass recruitment rally at the RMS.

It was initially reported that some 400 aspirants from Nagaland passed the preliminary tests in 2021. It later emerged that the total of aspirants, who cleared the tests was around 1400— approximately 800 from Nagaland and 600 from Assam and Manipur. ‘Admit Cards’ to sit for the mandatory CEE were subsequently issued by the ARO, Rangapahar.
The CEE however was not conducted as scheduled.

As per the letter, it was initially postponed owing to the lockdown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequently cancelled.

Expressing dismay at the ARO ignoring the case of the successful 2021 batch, one of the protestors said, “They cancelled it without relaying proper information. We recently heard that the CEE was cancelled. We demand the holding of the exam within 3 days.” He added that if the demand is not met, they will be deciding on further recourse.

Asked if they have considered taking legal recourse, he said they would use that option if the army authorities do not respond positively. “We will take it step by step.”

He added that it would be unfair to have the 2021 batch go through the same process again clubbed with the Agnipath scheme. According to him, fresh recruitment should not be held until the CEE for 2021 batch is conducted.

According to him, the uncertainty coupled with the indifference of the government to their genuine complaint has left them in a dilemmatic situation, unable to pursue other avenues, spoiling their lives and career.
