Members of All Nagaland PWD Field Worker’s Association (ANPWDFWA) PWD (R&B, Housing and National Highway) on Tuesday launched indefinite agitation throughout the state after the state government failed to release pending salaries of work-charged employees under B, C and D categories within January 31, 2022.

Zunheboto: Field workers of PWD (R&B) staged protest outside office of the executive engineer PWD (R&B) Zunheboto and locked the office.

The protesting workers said that office would be opened only after their salaries were released.

Speaking at the protest rally, the workers said they decided to shut down the office in protest against the department.

The workers cautioned that the agitation would be intensified if the government did not fulfil their demands. They also said that all the roads under PWD (R&B) department would be blocked and restrict movement of vehicles would be allowed to ply.

Urging the government to intervene and resolve the matter, the protesters expressed dismay with the behaviour of PWD officials, who they said did not even bother to hold talks.

They said that since they have not been paid salary for the past 22 months, it has become difficult for them to manage and look after their families and fulfil their daily needs.

Kiphire: Joining with the rest of the units, the NPWD Field Workers Association Kiphire unit also held a sit-in protest at their office, Kiphire town on Tuesday.

In a press release, Kiphire unit president Lithrongchem Sangtam stated that field workers have not been paid for 22 months despite their hard work and dedication. Unit president appealed to the government to release pending salaries at the earliest.

The workers, who gathered at PWD Office Kiphire holding placards, expressed resentment against the government for depriving them and not paying them on time.

Noklak: PWD field workers Noklak unit held a silent protest at Noklak town on Tuesday and submitted memorandum to deputy commissioner (DC) Noklak.

In a press release, PWDFWA, Noklak unit president Lamsong said that the offices of executive engineer and SDO PWD (R&B) Noklak were locked.
PWDFWA Noklak unit affirmed that it would strongly support and stand by ANPWDFWA and cautioned that in the event of any eventuality, the department and government would be solely held responsible.

Workers who joined that protest held placard some of which read, ‘Release our hard work salaries’, ‘Work Charge employees are the main force which maintain the road infrastructure’, ‘enough verification upon W/C employees’ etc.
