Boeing India and ‘Doctors For You’ launch project to improve healthcare in Nagaland

In a major boost to the health care infrastructures and delivery system in the state of Nagaland, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project, an initiative of Boeing India and Doctors For You was launched this evening at the Chief Minister Resident Complex (CMRC), Kohima.

Launched by Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, this CSR is the initiative of The Boeing Company implemented by Doctors For You in collaboration with the Department of Health & Family Welfare and Investment and Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN).

Under this project, pilot model labour room in six Community Health Centres and Primary Health Centres namely CHC Pungro, Kiphire; PHC Angpang, Mon; CHC Tuli, Mokokchung; CHC Aghunato, Zunheboto; CHC Tamlu, Longleng and PHC Botsa, Kohima will be taken up.

During the programme, an ambulance, digital X-Ray and Ultrasound machine from Boeing India and Doctors For You was handed to PHC Botsa by the chief minister. A total of 137 equipments and logistics will be provided, wherein setting up Model Labour Room in the remaining CHC/PHC will be completed in the next 1-2 months.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between the Doctors For You and the Department of H&FW with the aim to further expand its public health system strengthening work in the state.

As per the MoU, Doctors For You (DFY) will assist the state government in strengthening the health system and health programme implemented by various agencies as per need identified by the state government. At the same time, the state government is to appoint a senior level officer as Nodal Officer to coordinate with DFY and various other agencies on regular basis to implement the programmes on priority.

Besides others, the state government is to provide all administrative support to roll out the various public health programmes across the state, possible under the existing rules and by laws of the government.

Launching the programme, Rio pointed out that the health infrastructure at the time of Statehood in 1963 was abysmal. However, today public health facilities have increased to 771 comprising of various categories of health facilities viz. DH: 11, SMHI: 1, TB&CDH: 2, CHC: 35, PHC: 42, SHC: 1, BD: 2, SC: 577.

“Healthcare is a cornerstone of our governmental policy for Nagaland, with a focus on maternal and child health, education and access to primary medical services to all,” said Rio and hoped the partnership would bring quality, low cost or free basic healthcare services to the people of the state, supported by quality healthcare education and training, as well as doorstep access to cutting edge diagnostic and treatment services.

“Working together, we can ensure the achievement of these goals, making Nagaland a model for states across the country….and I’m proud to inaugurate another milestone project, a visionary collaboration that will improve the quality of healthcare with respect maternal and child healthcare services through the Model Labour Room project,” said Rio.
The Chief Minister thanked Boeing India, for supporting the State through the partnership with Doctors For You in providing the much needed resources for the Public Health system strengthening work in the state.

Doctors For You
Doctors For You is a pan India humanitarian organisation with international presence who focuses on providing medical care to the vulnerable communities. DFY in India was founded in 2007 by doctors, medical students and like-minded people with vision of ‘Health for all.’

Currently, DFY is working on various projects in different state of India involving health professional, disaster management practitioners, social workers and administrative staff.

Speaking during the programme, Dr Rajat Jain, president DFY said it is working in 25 states and three union territories including five states in the North East Region 

 

Contents of MoU

MoU with Doctors For You is a long term commitment of 10 years to start with primarily focused on:
•    Building/renovating Public Health infrastructures in the state.
•    Providing, maintaining and operating medical equipments at various health facilities.
•    Healthcare workforce development for the current and future needs of the state.
•    Building health sector resilience and working of disaster risk reduction to achieve sustainable development goals (SDG) and
•    Working on various public health issues in consultation with Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland.
