Dimapur, November 28 (MExN): A book titled ‘Once upon the Hills’ by Dr Rakhee Kalita Moral was launched at The White Owl Book Lounge, Chümoukedima on November 26.

According to a press release received here, Vitono Gugu Haralu, who helped the author in assisting her research work in Nagaland, chaired the programme. The book was released by Dr Anungla Aier, Retd Director, Department of Higher Education, Government of Nagaland.

The book is an outcome of the initiative of a person who is not a Naga, thus, Dr Anungla stated that the book is distinct since it carries the perspective of an outsider from a neighbouring state about Naga women, the release stated.

In the author’s note, Dr Rakhee shared that the idea of this book took birth three years ago through the Humanities across Borders (HaB) programme. She thanked Ra Acharya, Assistant Professor at USTM and those who have journeyed with her in the making of the book during the pandemic.

Since the book is on Naga women, she noted, “It is a Naga women’s book, it is not my book, it is yours.” She further stated, “This book is an attempt to bridge the gap of how the Naga community and its women have been perceived and what their everyday real experiences and practises are.”

The book has a QR code scanner in every article, which will further lead the readers to similar topics. Thus, it is an example of the pedagogic shift of the present where traditional teaching learning methods intersect the digital life through the QR codes that are inserted in the book.

The author, Dr Rakhee Kalita Moral, is the Associate Professor of English, and Head, Centre for Women’s Studies, Cotton University and Project Co-ordinator, Humanities across Borders (IIAS) Leiden. The book will be available at Heritage Publishing House, Dimapur and Cotton University, Guwahati.
