Children’s Parliament Initiative-II meeting held in Peren

PEREN, AUGUST 28 (MExN): The Children’s Parliament Initiative-II under the aegis of Development Association of Nagaland (DAN) organized distict level stakeholder and strategy development meeting cum general election and assembly  of the Peren District Level Children’s Parliament on August 25 at St. Xavier Parish. 

TL Kiusumong Tikhir, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Jalukie stated that young age is an important stage where one should develop good values and spirit. He mentioned that one must have the habit of reading and as a child one should pick up good habits to grow. He stated that Children’s Parliament is a privilege and one should take active part in its various initiatives and build leadership skills for empowering oneself.   

The guest speaker, Atu Zumvu, SDPO and head of the District Special Juvenile Police Unit (DSJPU) Peren spoke on ‘Scope for children’s participation for child rights protection in relation to cyber crime.’ Ekonthung Kikon, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) of the Social Welfare Department, Jalukie spoke on ‘Scope for children’s collaboration with the social welfare to safeguard child rights’ and Hoineichin Singson, Social Worker of National Tobacco Control Programme Peren (NTCP) spoke on ‘scope for children’s participation in DTTC for control of tobacco consumption by children in the district.’

Earlier, the programme began with an invocation by Rev Father Martin, Vice Principal, St. Xavier Hr. Sec. School, Jalukie. Azenyhun Nsü, Mentor of St. Xavier Hr. Sec. School, Jalukie chaired the programme and Jiji Joseph, Senior Program Officer, DAN delivered the welcome address and shared about the strategy for district level Children’s Parliament. The programme was attended by the stakeholders and mentors along with the Children’s Parliament representatives from 10 institutional and 5 neighborhood Children’s Parliaments.
