Even with the lockdown and restrictions on movement in place and in view of the steady rise in cases with the onset of the second wave in 2021, more colonies in the State capital have initiated restrictions in the form of imposing total shutdown from May 27, curbing movement of persons and business operations.

The colonies to be under total shutdown are New Minister Hill, Lerie, Lerie Chazuo and New Reserve which comes under Ward 16 and AG Colony. Earlier Kohima Village announced a lockdown till May 31.

“During the total lockdown period, no individual or group will be allowed to move around in the Colony without permission except on Official Duty,” an order from a colony panchayat said.

While calling for the cooperation of residents, the order directed residents to contact panchayat, youth office bearers for any emergency or regarding essential commodities adding that violation will result in penalty.

The Secretary, Ward 16 Neizongulie Suohu, informed that the move has been taken to “to observe lockdown more seriously by keeping all business establishments closed and making home isolation stricter.”

In this regard, the Minister in-charge of Kohima district COVID-19 viewed that there should not be any parallel order or functioning as such other than the Government and DTF’s directives and guidelines. “However, since everyone is so concerned about the present scenario, I think certain measures (considering the situation and need of the colony/wards) with intimation/approval of the DTF should be okay.”
