Tuensang Forest Division conducts training on forest fire prevention, management

Tuensang, April 2 (MExN): The Tuensang Forest Division conducted an awareness and training on forest fire prevention and management at CKS Conference Hall, Tuensang on March 31.

The programme was attended by people from various villages, NGOs, allied department and forest staff. The Additional Deputy Commissioner, Tuensang Ajay Verma stressed the importance of collaborations among the villages and to use both the traditional methods along with technical help from the Department to prevent forest fire.

Kanchan IPS, SDPO Tuensang stressed on the dependence of villagers on the forest and the responsibilities of preventing the forest fire involving community participation which is common in Nagaland.

In her introductory speech, Dr C Zupeni Tsanglai IFS, Divisional Forest Officer, Tuensang Division, highlighted the responsibilities of villagers to work in collaboration with the Forest Department for preventing and managing forest fires in the district. She appreciated the efforts of the villagers for timely monitoring and intervention which is helping in preventing the forest fires in the district despite the vulnerability of forest fires incidences in the district due to practice of jhumming. For the benefit of the villagers, a printed folder on forest fire prevention and management in three languages–Chang, Sangtam and Yimchunger was handed over to the participants.

In the second session, presentation on fire prevention was given by C Renbenthung, Officer in-charge Fire Brigade Tuensang and the second presentation on forest fires prevention and management was given by Imtimar, Range Officer Noklak with demonstration using various fire fighting equipments to the villagers.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Assistant Conservator of Forest, Dzuthovito Lcho and the vote of thanks was pronounced by Imtimar, Range officer Noklak.

Altogether 90 members attended the training, of which 50 members were JFMC members from 25 villages along with the NGO, Tribal Council members, line department and Forest Department staff.
