Rationalization of doctors, medical officers soon

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 3 (MExN): Minister for Health and Family Welfare, P Paiwang Konyak on Saturday announced that District Hospital Dimapur (DHD) would be converted to a Referral Hospital for catering to the needs of other district hospitals in the state. 

He revealed this during the review meeting with the Chief Medical Officer, Medical Superintendent, Doctors and medical staff of DHD on September 2 in the conference hall of DHD. To augment this, Paiwang assured improvement of the DHD in terms of infrastructure manpower and other required areas. He also revealed that the best doctors and super specialists would be posted at DHD very soon.

Towards this, Paiwang disclosed that reshuffling and rationalisation of doctors/ medical officers will be taking place very soon. Following the same pattern like administration and police, transfer and posting will be strictly for 3 years and the medical practitioners should be willing to serve anywhere, Paiwang said. He further cautioned that he would not entertain any letters with regard to transfer and postings.

During the review meeting, Medical Superintendent (MS), DHD raised issues confronting the district hospital including shortage of doctors, lack of equipments, poor power pack-up, insufficient water supply and other poor infrastructure, need for solar back up, security fencing. 

The MS also raised on the issue of surge in dengue and the staff being overworked due to public pressure. The MS informed that owing to all these issues, the image of the hospital was in bad shape while they were compelled to refer the patients to other private hospitals.  

The Minister took note of the issues and urged the MS to coordinate with the District Health Society which will help ease some issues, the DIPR report stated. 

On the requirement of medical equipments, Paiwang assured that he will provide medical equipments including endoscopic and laparoscopic sets, video processor, gastroscopy, colonoscopy equipments and medical grade monitor worth Rs 66.50 lakhs from his personal level. He also assured for posting a Forensic expert and also for strengthening manpower on priority.

He also urged the district hospital not to deny any patients having PMJAY card or CMHIS stating that these insurance schemes will really help the patients especially those from economically poor background. 

On the surge of dengue, Paiwang informed to immediately bring to his knowledge in case of shortage of medicines and also urged for conduct of cleanliness drive on regular basis. While appreciating the Deputy Commissioner Dimapur for tying up with the ward council chairman’s to create awareness to contain the virus, Paiwang espoused faith that together with the medical and administration, the virus can be controlled. 

The Minister, who visited the entire site and blocks of the hospital, said all issues relating to the district hospital will be taken care of on priority. He also congratulated all the doctors and medical staff of DHD for rendering selfless services during Covid times. 

Paiwang, meanwhile, called for strict adherence to the office memorandum issued on government doctors to stop private practice during their official duty hours and also the recent change of OPD timing from 9 AM to 3 PM, the DIPR report also stated. 

The Minister was accompanied by medical officials and doctors from the Directorate of Health &Family Welfare. Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Sachin Jaiswal also attended the review meeting.
