Pharmacies with doctors must obtain clinic license
Kohima, April 1 (MExN): The Department of Health & Family Welfare (DoHFW) has directed all health centres, hospitals and clinics in Nagaland to strictly adhere to licensing norms under the Nagaland Health Care Establishment Authority Act, 1997, taking serious note of non-compliance by various facilities.
In a directive issued by Dr Mereninla Senlem, Principal Director, Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland, all healthcare establishments have been instructed to apply for renewal of license six months before the date of expiry. Additionally, facilities have been directed to first obtain license before operationalization of their health centres, hospitals or clinics.
The department noted that it has come to its notice that some pharmacies are engaging doctors for consultation. It clarified that engaging a doctor is deemed to constitute a clinic, and such pharmacies must invariably obtain a license under Clause 9 of the Nagaland Health Care Establishment Authority Act, 1997.
The directive was issued for the well-being of citizens and in the interest of public safety, the department stated.
