Education will empower people to protect and preserve their indigenous culture: Nagaland Gov

Kohima, June 30 (MExN): The Governor of Nagaland La Ganesan had an interactive programme with the students and School Managing Committee members of Zeliangrong Heraka School, Tening, Peren district at Dr Imkongliba hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima on June 29. 

Speaking on the programme, the Governor said he was happy that students from 25 villages of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland are benefited by this school, a press release from PRO, Raj Bhavan, Kohima stated. “Most of the students of this school are from poor and underprivileged families and the teachers are honorary social workers in this institution,” the Governor maintained. “From just a mere primary school when it was first established, the school is today a high school serving the people of not just Nagaland but even Assam and Manipur,” he stated. 

The Governor appreciated that the school aims for all round development of tribal community, emotional and cultural integrity of the Nation with the expectation that once the people are educated they will be  able to contributed their time and energy for the development of the state and the country.

“Education will empower the people to protect and preserve their indigenous culture,” he said while adding that the school’s educational activities should not just be confined within the four walls of the classroom. He encouraged the institutions to provide more opportunities to the students on activities like personality development camps, exposure tour to different states, science tours, participation in children science congress at state level and national levels, organizing literature competitions, cultural days etc. which are today part and parcel of an educational system for wholesome development of the students. 

“The school has the ultimate objectives to strengthen the nation by uniting tribal communities with a national outlook which is the need of the hour today,” he stated while adding, “India may be a land of diversity, but it is a land of unity in diversity.”

The Governor congratulated the school for securing 100% pass result in HSLC Exam for 13 years consecutively since 2011. “The achievement is a testament of the hard work put in by the students, teachers as well as the school management,” he said.

ZHS Tening, Administrator Talmsi Newmai highlighted about the school establishment, aims, achievements and performances. Marking the event, the students performed cultural dance and patriotic song.
