Envision & curate future of Nagaland: Along encourages Govt college principals

Nagaland Higher Education & Tourism Minister, Temjen Imna Along today called upon the principals of the government colleges in Nagaland to envision and curate the future of Nagaland to be inclusive in the channel of development and empowerment.

“The state and its people can only proper if the right human resources are developed,” Along said while addressing the annual conference of the Government Colleges Principals at the Directorate of Higher Education, Kohima on October 19.

There are 17 government colleges under the Department of Higher Education in Nagaland and the department caters to the growth and development of these colleges. The Minister maintained that the principals and teachers are nothing less than missionaries. He challenged the principals and teachers to build the community to be not only literate but educated as well.

Along maintained that among the many professions and great personalities, teachers are the greatest influencers and they have the power to mould, curate and envision in making a good society, a good family, a good state and a prosperous nation. He urged the principals to connect and work together with the community.

Earlier, the inaugural session was chaired by Higher Education Director, Dr A Nshoga, while Additional Director, Dr K Nishena Nekha delivered welcome address. Dr Elizabeth Walling, Principal, State College of Teacher Education, Kohima invoked God’s blessings.
Vote of thanks was proposed by Menuokholie Kire, Joint Director (Administration), Higher Education.
The session was followed by a business hour.

36 colleges in Nagaland NAAC accredited
During the conference, the Minister handed over certificates of appreciation to five mentor colleges: Kohima Science College Jotsoma, Kohima College, Fazl Ali College Mokokchung, Dimapur Government College and Patkai Christian College for successfully mentoring the concerned colleges for NAAC Assessment & Accreditation in the state.

To expedite NAAC Assessment & Accreditation, some reputed colleges have been involved as mentor colleges and through them, many non accredited government colleges have been accredited by NAAC.

As mandated by the University Grant Commission (UGC) and NAAC, the State Level Quality Assurance Cell (SLQAC) directs higher education institutions in Nagaland to undergo mandatory NAAC Assessment and Accreditation. The cell assists the college to identify quality gap, prior to NAAC assessment.

Academic and Administrative Audit (AAA) team are constituted and deputed to validate the colleges on request. This exercise helps the institution to know their strength, weakness and opportunities and thereby enable them to face NAAC assessment confidently.

SLQAC was set up in 2016 to ensure that the primary task of National Assessment Accreditation Council i.e. to assess and accredit institutions of higher learning with an objective of helping them to work continuously to improve the quality education.

Out of 71 colleges in Nagaland, 13 government colleges and 23 private colleges have been accredited by NAAC so far.
