FOCUS, FAO meet at Nagaland House

DIMAPUR , October 9: Agriculture production commissioner (APC) and mission director, Y. Kikheto Sema with a team of officers of Fostering Climate Resilient Farming Systems in the North East –Nagaland (FOCUS-Nagaland) project held a joint meeting with officials of Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) India led by country representative, Tomio Shichiri at Nagaland House, New Delhi on October 8.

According to a DIPR report, Y. Kikheto Sema acknowledged FAO for supporting FOCUS-Nagaland project in the state.

Emphasising the importance on learning innovative farming technologies for agricultural growth in the state, he appealed to the FAO to organise exposure visits of officers and farmers to various state, regions of the country and even countries having similar agro climatic conditions and farming practices.

It may be mentioned that FAO is a partner organisation in the FOCUS project and is providing various training and handholding support to key interventions planned under the project.

Major activities include preparation of training materials and conducting training of veterinary officers in animal production; preparation of training materials and conducting training of trainers in sloping agricultural land technology (SALT), horticulture and animal husbandry; preparation of a long term weather data based agro-climatic atlas for Nagaland, etc.

Earlier, APC along with joint secretary and SPD of FOCUS-Nagaland, S. Tainiu met joint secretary, department of economic affairs, Manisha Sinha to brief her of FOCUS-Nagaland project and discuss the issue of advance grant from IFAD to which an assurance was given.

Inclusion of Noklak, Peren and Tuensang in the FOCUS project was also discussed.
