Noklak, September 30 (MExN): Governor of Nagaland & Assam, Prof Jagdish Mukhi during his visit to Noklak district held a series of meetings with various government departments and different civil organizations at New Pangsha Village Council Hall on September 28 last.

An update from the PRO Raj Bhavan stated that on his visit to the Assam Rifles COB at ITC Dan, an interaction programme with the AR officers and Jawans was held. Commandant 14 AR Bn, Col Anand Reddy briefed on the free movement regime, movements of various insurgents groups and drugs peddling from across the border areas. He was also briefed on the steps taken by the AR to check such anti national activities near the Indo-Myanmar border.

Thereafter, the Governor proceeded to New Pangsha Village, which is situated close to the international border and held series of meeting with the Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) and other important civil society organizations. 

KTC which is the apex body of the Khiamniungan community informed that there are 155 villages within Myanmar and 47 villages within India which are inhabited by Khiamniungan community. ‘KTC looks after the interests of their community both in India and Myanmar, it was informed. The council also cited some of their grievances and requested the Governor to make the Internal Trade Center functional to facilitate trades between their own people settled across the border. They also appealed for increase of Village Guard personnel in the villages along the international border in order to effectively monitor the law and order and assist the Civil Administration in the area.

The Pangsha Public Organization (PPO) which is a civil body comprising of Dan, Pangsha New, Pangsha Old and Wonthoi villages situated along the international border also demanded for reactivation of the International Trade Centre, construction and establishment of Museum-cum-Library at ITC Dan and Construction of Lodge-cum-multipurpose hall at Pangsha Old Village. 

Another meeting followed with the District Administration and all district heads of departments. The Deputy Commissioner was asked to submit a proposal to the Government to double the income of farmers in the district after a consultative meeting with officials from all the Agri & Allied departments and a copy to be forwarded to Commissioner & Secretary to Governor. 

He was asked to submit a proposal for improvement of road and internet connectivity within the District. The Governor directed the DC to supervise and monitor the Jal Jeevan Mission for effective implementation as well as all other flagship programme of the Central Government in the District.

During the interactive meeting, the Assistant Commandant of Village Guards (VG) requested to enhance the salary of VG personnel as the present monthly salary is only Rs 3,000 which is too meagre. Further, he also requested to appoint VGs in Dan village as no VGs have been appointed so far in this border village.

While interacting with the Khiamniungan Students’ Union, they requested for establishment of a Degree College in the District. However, since a college does not seem to be feasible due to lack of sufficient students, DC Noklak was directed to take up with the State Government for introduction of Science Stream in the present Higher Secondary School Noklak together with establishment of other relevant vocational training institutions. 

The Chamber of Commerce Noklak stated that due to bad road connectivity to the District headquarter, the prices of essential commodities goes up thus causing hardships to the people. Therefore, good road connectivity to the District needs to be provided urgently. 

In a meeting with all the political parties, BJP members demanded for establishment of office of Border Magistrate or EAC at Dan village due to frequent firing incidents taking place there. The BJP members also demanded for improvement of internet connectivity for the benefit of all inhabitants of the district.

Governor also held a separate meeting with both Central and State security agencies such as Police, SIB, Special Bureau and VGs. Superintendent of Police, Noklak presented the overall law and order situation in the district.
