EDN INSTITUTIONS TO REMAIN SHUT*SINGLE STANDARD SOP TO BE ISSUED

A day after the centre issued the nationwide Unlock 3 guidelines, the High Powered Committee (HPC) headed by the chief minister, decided to continue with the current lockdown measures in Nagaland, till August 31, 2020.

The centre on Wednesday further extended the process of phased re-opening of activities in Unlock 3, which would come into effect from August 1, 2020.

HPC deliberated on the existing lockdown measures and decided to continue with the measures. HPC also reiterated that respective district task force (DTF) on COVID-19 were empowered to take decisions on imposition of stricter or additional lockdown measures as per their assessment of the local conditions in their respective districts. It was also reiterated that schools and colleges would continue to remain closed.

Minister and state government spokesperson, Neiba Kronu, told Nagaland Post that new single standard operating procedure (SOP) for the entire state would be brought out very soon.

The decision to extend current lockdown measures in Nagaland was taken at a meeting of the High Powered Committee (HPC) on COVID-19 in Kohima under the chairmanship of the state chief minister, Neiphiu Rio. Other HPC members who attended the meeting included- HPC co-chairman & deputy chief minister Y Patton; minister health & family welfare; minister planning & coordination, LR & parliamentary affairs; chief secretary; additional chief secretary & development commissioner and senior government officials.

The HPC was briefed by the home and health departments on the overall COVID-19 situation in the state.

Both the school education department as well as higher & technical education departments briefed members on various measures being taken to ensure continuous learning of the students through both offline and online modes during the lock down period.

In view of the rise in COVID-19 positive case, three districts are currently under total lockdown—Kohima (July 25-31), Dimapur (July 26- August 2) and Mon (July 27-August 2).

With public gripped by fears of community transmission, sources Wednesday said the district task forces of Kohima and Dimapur would have to take stock of the situation in the next few days before deciding on whether or not to extend the lockdown period.
