Longtrok Senden Ungma celebrates cultural extravaganza

Mokokchung, August 2 (MExN): The Longterok Senden Ungma celebrated its 38th edition of cultural extravaganza at Yimtsungda Arok Salang at Ungma village on July 31. The celebration was marked by numerous traditional Ao folk songs, dances and short play based on Ao folklores. The festival highlighted the traditional and cultural aspects of Ao Naga festivals through various forms of vigorous folk dances and traditional songs.

The participants at the event were the representative of the ten cultural clubs under the aegis of Longtrok Senden, Ungma Village. The participants consisted of people of all age groups.

Imyapangla Jamir, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Mokokchung graced the occasion as special guest. While addressing the audience, she stated that cultural event like this serves as an opportunity for young people to learn about one’s culture and tradition. She also stated that it provides avenues for young talents to exhibit their talents.

She added that it is a celebration of reflecting on oneself and one’s identity. “Culture programmes like these remind us of the values that bind people together,” said Imyapangla. She further stated that it has become necessary to preserve culture and tradition has become a dire and it should be passed down from one generation to another since culture and tradition is the bridge between the age old culture and tradition and the fast changing world today.

Longtrok Senden has been organising this event for the 38th year. The significance of this celebration is, it has an objective of exhibiting culture and tradition and thereby, imparting the importance of preserving culture through the song, dances, folklores and folk tales.
