Highlighting the current political scenario of the State, Dr SC Jamir, former Chief Minister of Nagaland stated that the Naga people have lost their vision, both over-ground and under-ground. This was amplified by the non-existence of a political ideology or principal to unite the people as a whole into one single cohesive force, he said and added, “the greatest persecution of politics has started today in Nagaland and it is extremely difficult for old men like us to watch this drama.”

Speaking as the chief guest at the 25th anniversary celebration of Christina Memorial Higher Secondary School (CMHSS) in Aoyimti, Dimapur on January 31, Dr Jamir lambasted the State politicians and leaders for their non-commitment towards the people they served. “For the last few days I have been keenly observing what really has been going on in Nagaland. Have Naga people lost their vision, character and are they under the shadow of past events?” he asked the audience.

Despite these circumstances, he mentioned that he was optimistic for the future of the Naga people.

In the past the strength of a country depended upon resources. But today it is knowledge that determines the strength of a country. Due to which the Nagas have to keep abreast with the changes of the world, he said. Utilisations of technology and modern devices have to go hand-in-hand toward propelling the state in this new age, he added.

In addition, educational institutions also hold the key to building the Nagaland of tomorrow. Therefore, it is required that they must continue to reform, restructure and rejuvenate, he said.

Above all else, the ushering in of change will depend on the conclusion of the Naga political peace-talks. “Once the political problem is solved, the new dawn of peace and stability will be ushered in,” he viewed.
