Nagaland: 10 isolation coaches at Dimapur Railway Station

The Union Ministry of Railways today informed that 10 isolation coaches have been deployed in Dimapur at the request of the Government of Nagaland.

This is part of its multi-pronged initiatives to strengthen the capabilities of the nation in the united fight against COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry said in a statement.

To work concurrently with the states and to reach out as swiftly as possible, the Railway has drawn a de-centralised plan of action empowering Zones and Divisions to work out their Memorandum of Agreement for cohesive action, it added.

The isolation coaches, the Ministry noted, can be easily moved and positioned at places of demand on the Indian Railways network.

Accordingly, as per States’ demand, at present 213 coaches have been handed over to various states for Covid care with a bed-capacity of nearly 3400 beds, it said.

“The latest demand came from the State Government of Nagaland for Isolation Coaches. Accordingly, the Railway worked swiftly to deploy 10 Isolation Coaches at Dimapur,” it added.

Presently 61 Covid patients are utilising the isolation coaches. A total of 3,200 beds are still available at these facilities including the newly deployed coaches in Dimapur, the Ministry informed.

The Nagaland Government’s request for the isolation coaches came against the backdrop of rising cases in the state particularly in Dimapur.

With 1,087 new cases in the week ending April 30, Nagaland registered the highest weekly count since the first case was detected in May 2020.

In addition, while the test positivity rate in Nagaland was 25%, it was record 37% in Dimapur, informed the State Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme’s (IDSP) weekly COVID roundup released on May 1.

As on May 2 at 3PM, Dimapur had 1,116 active cases out of 1,529 across Nagaland.

Meanwhile, the Government of Assam has also requested that 150 Covid coaches be kept in readiness at various stations though they have not requisitioned them

“Six Stations Kamakhya/ Guwahati, Lumding, New Bongaigaon, Silchar, Badarpur and Dibrugarh have been suggested where these coaches can be placed whenever required,” the Railway Ministry informed.
