DIMAPUR, APRIL 25 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today appealed to the people of the State to consider the importance of energy conservation, and urged them to develop a culture for preference for various renewable non petroleum energy sources and adopt, popularise and use greener and cleaner forms of power.

A press release from the CM lauded the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, will be celebrating a month long Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav (SAKSHAM) 2023 throughout the country from April 24 to May 8. The theme for SAKSHAM-2023 is: ‘Energy Conservation towards Net Zero.’

The CM said that India is the third largest energy consumer in the world. “Our energy demand is ever increasing and it is projected to double by the year 2040. Accordingly, a major portion of our budget allocation, by necessity, has to be diverted from developmental programs to defray the import cost of petroleum,” he said.

Rio added that the conservation of petroleum resources, consequently, becomes the first step for sustainable development of the country. “It is, therefore, vital that each and every petroleum consuming citizen of the country learn to conserve petroleum and turn to renewable energy to effectively contribute towards building a new and Atmanirbhar Bharat,” he said.

“It gives we pleasure to note that the PCRA, along with Oil Marketing Companies will be organizing various events across the state of Nagaland in order to reach out to various sections of society for bringing awareness about energy conservation for a better future for posterity,” the CM added.
