Nagaland ICAR conducts Mithun Mela cum Technology Injection Prog

Dimapur, February 16 (MExN): ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, Medziphema, Nagaland organised a Mithun Mela cum Technology Injection Programme at Loth village on February 14. 

This initiative, held in collaboration with Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary and Dairy Development, Government of Arunachal Pradesh and other line departments, aimed to disseminate crucial advancements and foster sustainable practices in Mithun farming. Mithun farmers, researchers, and government officials converged to exchange insights, innovations, and experiences, enriching the collective knowledge base for the benefit of the community. 

The event showcased technologies and research findings of ICAR-NRCM tailored to optimize Mithun rearing and management practices, stated a press release received here. 

Taba Tedir, Minister (Education, Cultural Affairs & Indigenous Affairs), Government of Arunachal Pradesh graced the programme as chief guest. In his address, he lauded the efforts of ICAR NRC on Mithun and underscored the pivotal role of such initiatives in advancing Mithun practices in Arunachal Pradesh. Tedir emphasized the government’s support for improving Mithun farming practices. He highlighted the significance of technology infusion and knowledge dissemination for Mithun development in Arunachal Pradesh. Attendees pledged to utilize newfound knowledge to enhance Mithun rearing.

S Gurung, ADC, Yachuli the guest of honour advocated for adopting smart Mithun farming techniques during the event. He emphasised the importance of scaling up operations to enhance income opportunities for farmers. Gurung’s advice underscored the potential for large-scale Mithun farming to boost economic prosperity in the region. Dr Girish Patil, S, Director of ICAR-NRC on Mithun, advocated for commercialization of Mithun farming, highlighting its FSSAI approval and premium market potential. He recommends utilizing the M-Anitra trading app for efficient online Mithun trading and emphasises the importance of organic certification. Dr Patil encouraged farmers to explore value-added meat and milk products for increased revenue. Dr Taba Heli, Mission Director, AMYC Mission, Department of AHV&DD, Government of Arunachal Pradesh coordinated the programme.

Later, Farmers-Scientists-Veterinary officers interface meet was held fostering collaborative discussions and knowledge exchange among Mithun stakeholders. A total of 467 Mithun farmers, 56 Mithuns were ear-tagged and vaccinated against FMD. Inputs and best Mithun awards were distributed to encourage Mithun farming.
