Ten days after armed masked men looted a customer service point of the Bandhan Bank in Dimapur, the police was still to make a breakthrough in the case. Three masked men had looted the customer service point, of the micro-finance banking firm, located at Kuda village on December 18 at gunpoint. The incident, which was captured on CCTV, showed the robbers brandishing what was purported to be a real gun. They decamped with an estimated Rs 1.3 lakh in cash, as per the police.

A Dimapur police official told The Morung Express on December 28 that the police was confident of cracking the case but “would take some time.” He said that it cannot be stated if more people were involved but per the CCTV footage, three people were involved.

“We are preparing to send the video footage for forensic analysis. We are in the process. We will soon give you the results,” said the official. The police have registered the case under the IPC section dealing with robbery and the Arms Act.

Disappearing act case
Meanwhile, it emerged that the police re-arrested Amit Jain, the man who was tracked down in Gujarat after he was reported missing from Dimapur. The official said that Jain has an old case, relating to an allegedly botched financial transaction, pending against him at the Diphupar Police Station.

The pending case allegedly compelled him to flee by orchestrating a story of suicide by drowning in the Dhansiri River. He was reported missing by his wife on June 23 after he left a voice message telling his wife not to look for him as he was taking his own life. His motorcycle was also found on the Dhansiri Bridge.

Following the complaint, the Dimapur police and the SDRF conducted an intensive search operation, at a time when the river was swelling from the monsoon rains. The Dimapur police said that the search went beyond the state border into Karbi Anglong, Assam.

While a missing case was registered, the police kept on the lookout after inconsistencies to the story emerged. He was tracked down by the Dimapur police to a place in the Valsad district of Gujarat, where he had got a job as a private security at a company. He was brought to Dimapur on December 17.

He reportedly admitted to devising the disappearing act following which a case was registered against him under IPC sections 429, 403 and 406.  It was followed with the Diphupar Police Station ‘re-arresting’ him for the pending case.

The amount of money involved was not disclosed.
