10 doctors receive best performing award

Nagaland today joined the rest of the country in observing National Doctors’ Day under the theme “Family doctor on the front line.”

National Doctors’ Day is observed on July 1 every year in the honour of noted doctor and former West Bengal Chief Minister Bidhan Chandra Roy.

Observing the day at Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima, ten doctors have been conferred with Best Performing Doctor award in recognition of their outstanding performance under Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY.

The programme was organized by State Health Agency (Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY), Department of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland, Kohima.

Earlier in the day, Nagaland’s Health & Family Welfare Minister S Pangnyu Phom took to Twitter to extending best wishes to all the doctors in the state. “May you all continue to contribute your precious time, effort in the service for humanity,” he stated in the tweet.

‘Not just an honour but a huge responsibility’
Speaking on the occasion, Nagaland’s PWD (Housing & Mechanical) Minister Tongpang Ozukum congratulated the best performing doctors and also other physicians for their service during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Being a doctor is not just an honour but a huge responsibility with no room for error as their mistakes would cost precious lives, he said.

Recalling the trying times during the COVID-19 pandemic, he lauded all the doctors for the selfless service in controlling the pandemic and saving thousands of lives. Ozukum maintained that AB PM-JAY is one of the biggest health schemes of the Government of India for the common people.

The minister called for proper sensitization on the benefits of the scheme and conduct of comprehensive survey on its implementation in the ground.

Nagaland Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme will be launched soon, he said, adding that it would bring about a robust healthcare system in Nagaland.

Ozukum hoped that with the improved medical infrastructure in the state during the pandemic and the two medical colleges in the offing along with the support of private hospitals and practitioners, Nagaland would soon be at par with the other states in health care delivery system.

He also urged upon all the medical practitioners to rededicate themselves to serve the people with sincerity and professionally.

AM PM-JAY covers 2.33 lakh households across Nagaland
Asangla Imti, Secretary to the Government of Nagaland, Health &Family Welfare said that AM PM-JAY was launched in 2018 and covers 2.33 lakh households across Nagaland based on the socio-economic and caste census 2011.

Rs 34 crore worth of free treatment has been availed till date by the beneficiaries in Nagaland, she informed.

She said that AB PM-JAY is an initiative of the GoI which aims to accelerate the nation’s progress towards universal health coverage. It provides free hospitalization coverage up to 5 lakh/entitled household annually through a network of public and private hospitals.

She recapitulated the process and selection of awardees from the District level that performed exceptionally for the AB-PMJAY scheme.

Nagaland Medical Council president Dr Joyce Angami said a doctor’s role has become ever more demanding over the past two years ever since the outbreak of the pandemic.

This annual commemoration is dedicated to all doctors for their sacrifices, achievements and contributions while at the same time to sensitize the greater society to acknowledge their role as a doctor in the medical field, a healthcare professional and a frontliner relentlessly battling the spread of COVID 19 pandemic, she said.

DHFW principal director Dr K Vikato Kinimi led the gathering in a minute of silence in remembrance of doctors who lost their lives during the pandemic.

The programme was chaired by Dr Visasieu Kire, Director (Health) while Dr Thorhusie Katiry, Managing Director, National Health Mission proposed vote of thanks.
