Kohima, March 4 (MExN): A five-day Training of Trainers (ToT) course on the three new criminal laws, organised by Nagaland Police under the aegis of Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D), Union Ministry of Home Affairs, is currently underway in Chumoukedima.
The three new criminal laws Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BSN), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyan (BSA), 2023 replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860 Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.PC), 1973 and The Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
The training from March 1-6 at Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex, Chümoukedima is aimed at sensitizing the officers and to equip them with a comprehensive understanding of the new laws, informed the State DIPR.
Police officers from the rank of Assintant Sub-Inspector to Additional Superintendent of Police are attending the training.
During the inaugural in March 1, Addl. DGP (Admin) Renchamo P Kikon gave an overview on the new provisions of the three criminal laws stating that the Indian Criminal Justice System was now poised to be citizen and victim centric while at the same time empowering the police.
Touching on various facet and provisions in the new criminal laws, he encouraged the participants to keep an open mind and diligently participate and be responsive during the course.
A brief introduction of the course was delivered by Rajashekara N, Deputy Director BPR&D who is also the main resource person for the training programme.
The programme was attended by Khalate Vikram IPS, IGP (CID); Vilhousie Peseyie, Joint Director FSL; and 81 officers from all the District Police of Nagaland.
