MOKOKCHUNG, JANUARY 4 (MExN): Living up to the tagline, “unforgiving terrains, uniting people,” the second day of the Nagaland Winter Expedition 2023, took off from the “Land of Plenty” Wokha where the off-roaders experienced culture along with the ‘real-deal’ off-roading. Even though off-roading is at a nascent stage, the support from the community has shown immense potential of off-roading in Wokha district.

Breakfast was hosted at Lithanro coffee farm in Sanis where the off-roaders got an opportunity to sip locally grown fresh aromatic Jürho coffee brewed and harvested just steps away. Coffee from Nagaland is considered to be one of the best in the world and the offroaders were fortunate enough to have an immersive experience into the unique blend of farm-to-table delights amidst the lush embrace of coffee trees.

After a scrumptious breakfast, the team headed to Chudi to take a detour of the village which is situated on a ridge overlooking both the Doyang and Baghty valley. Then to Baghty valley to conquer challenging trails where with each trail unveiling new and exciting panorama, according to a day-to-day accounts of the expedition reported by Yanrenthung Jamio from 4×4 Attitude Expedition.

The tourists were enthralled with the local cultural activities. The high octave cry which signifies various occasions or situations, now nearly lost in the flow of civilization was a treat to the offroaders. These adrenaline junkies got an additional dose of adrenaline from the high-pitched cry of the Lotha Nagas.

With the end of the Wokha trails, the offroaders headed to the “Land of Pioneers” Mokokchung to rest and gear up for the next adventure.

Day 3 began from the “Land of Pioneers” Mokokchung navigating through the untamed scenic trails of the Eastern parts of Nagaland.

Mother Nature has blessed Nagaland with lofty mountains and spiraling terrains. The scenic beauty of the hills shows the uniqueness of every trail that the different districts of the state have to offer.

After a treacherous 9 hours drive, the off-roaders reached their destination Longwa, which is the biggest village in Mon. On reaching Longwa, the off-roaders went to the hilltop, to witness the beautiful sunset from the Indo-Myanmar border. This was followed with the visitation of the ‘Anghs’ residence where the house is divided and the border runs through both India and Myanmar.

The off-roaders not only got the opportunity to off-road on tough terrains but also got to meet one of the last head-hunters in Nagaland which is something that the future generation may not be able to witness. The night ended with bonfire, where the tourists were able to absorb the culture of the place through traditional folk songs, local cuisines, traditional jewelry, handicrafts and muzzle loaded guns.

The Nagaland Winter Expedition 2023 hosted by 4×4 Attitude Expedition was flagged off by Association of Offroaders Nagaland President, Kenzeu Lungalang from CT Square 7th Mile Chümoukedima on December 27.

The expedition is scheduled to cover 12 districts of Nagaland spanning for nine days, through the toughest terrains and creeks and reach the eastern most border of India- Myanmar boundary, the first of its kind covering the length and breadth of Nagaland.
