NEISSR undertakes welfare initiatives for auto drivers

Chümoukedima, August 1 (MExN): The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) organised an awareness programme for Chümoukedima auto drivers at Peace Centre Hall, Chümoukedima on July 30. Altogether 134 auto drivers attended the programme. 

 

 

 

Dr Fr CP Anto, Director of Peace Channel and Principal of NEISSR in his welcome address introduced NEISSR and Peace Centre besides highlighting their vision and mission. “From this vision and mission emerged the inspiration to start welfare initiatives for the auto drivers in this institution aiming to help them with information of the various government schemes available and with ideas or means to attain them,” he stated.

Fr Robin, Asst Professor, NEISSR spoke about various schemes and benefits available for the auto drivers. The institution dreams for the auto drivers are drivers network all over India, customers friendly driving, free and fair policy, accident free roads, awareness campaign, providing skill training programs, digital platform, welfare schemes for auto drivers, other income sources for auto drivers and counseling facilities. He also cited benefits for the drivers like Insurance policy, Government schemes, and assistance for clerical work, financial literacy and family counseling.

Dr Toli H Kiba, Asst Professor NEISSR spoke on the auto driver’s contribution to community. Fr L Khing, Vice Principal NEISSR shared the advantages for being honest and understanding towards the passengers. The drivers who have these qualities are more likely to attract more passengers which is one of the prime importance for the drivers, he stated. 

On behalf of the auto drivers present, David Lotha, representative of Chümoukedima District Auto Drivers’ Union expressed gratitude for arranging the awareness programme. The session concluded with vote of thanks by Zevisanuo Khate.
