Niuland GBs appeal for good roads in district

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 6 (MExN): The Gao Buras of Niuland district have submitted a memorandum to the Nagaland Government for better road connectivity in the newly created district. 

A press release from the Niuland GBs Association media and publicity cell informed that the GBs of the district, comprising of 5 areas and 109 villages, submitted a joint memorandum to the Nagaland Minister for PWD (R&B), Kaito Aye during an event of the Niuland Area Students Union at S Vihuto village. 

The memorandum proposed for new road connectivity from Zubza bridge to Rengmapani (14 km ) via Niuland town, which it stated needs urgent attention. It pointed out that this is of high economic importance considering the interstate connectivity to Assam, “which would be a game changer for reviving the local economy, ease students movement to schools, create opportunities for young entrepreneurs and would help improve connectivity towards wokha district via Assam and Kohima district.” 

Further, it also proposed development of road to Ghokuto village, which is 6 km from Nihoku EAC Hq junction. The memo noted that the village is proposed to be the “future must visit destination for tourists as peak view point for Dimapur and Niuland districts.

The GBs added that better road connectivity in the new district would improve the welfare of the public by creating and encouraging new investment in infrastructure from outside, creating new opportunities and much needed ecosystem for overall growth. This in turn, the memo said would enable the aspirations of the younger generation and generation of employment opportunities in the private sector.

It further affirmed that the GBs would facilitate in all possible ways and welcome developmental activities. It pointed out some of the targeted sectors including agri based industries and tea, and eco, agro and adventure tourism, which the memo said, has huge inherent strength in the foothill plain areas and needs innovative initiatives. 

The memorandum also appreciated the ongoing “good quality work” from 4th Mile Jail junction to Zubza bridge 21.89 km, “with dedicated sincere efforts carried out by Vipe enterprise and supporting firms which has completed the entire DBM first layer, easing vehicular movements of the public. It further noted that progress is in its final BC finishing layer at 13 km chainage under Ato area judridiction, in which physical progress is 86 percent ahead of financial progress despite restricted monsoon period from June to October.

The memo said that the GBs along with the department are closely monitoring and supporting for early completion of the road. It appealed that the bills be released in time by the department, so that the firm completes its task during the working season period. 

The memo also requested the Minister and the department for inclusion of drainage which was not there in the initial DPR in the entire stretch and additional retaining walls/culverts in crucial areas which was not included in the DPR. It especially called for expansion of culvert at Nihokhu, where one person was killed in a vehicle accident. The GBs also requested that the additional items of work be included during the ongoing work before its closure and timelines extended to ensure its completion. 

The GBs expressed gratitude to the Minster for PWD (R&B) for his patient hearing and positive support from the government to extend the best possible assistance that is feasible for the newly formed Niuland district.
