NSAMB AC market garners good response

130 MT produce procured so far

Organic AC Market which was inaugurated on December 8, 2020 at Nagaland State Agricultural Marketing Board (NSAMB) Complex, Dimapur is garnering a good response from the public.

Interacting with a section of media persons at his office prior to inauguration of Dryer, Washer and Slicer Machines on May 4, NSAMB Managing Director, G Ikuto Zhimomi said it has so far procured 130 MT of 65 items from all the districts of the state except Noklak since inauguration of the AC Market. On an average, 33MT of produce were procured per month.

The commodities procured include wild and leafy vegetables, fruits and other agricultural organic crops.

Ikuto also informed that out of the 130MT, the maximum commodity comprised of ginger at 50MT out of which 35MT have been marketed and 15MT remains at hand. The remaining ginger will be put into slicer and dryer machines and converted into both solid and powder form for longevity, he added.

The MD further informed that maximum quantity of ginger was procured from Zunheboto followed by Kohima, Tuensang and Mon.

The cold storage facility with a capacity of 1000 MT and the AC Market is run by solar energy, power grid and generator. “During day time, the facility is fully run by solar energy,” he said.

Ikuto said that any Naga entrepreneur can make use of the cold storage facility at NSAMB Complex on payment of nominal fee.

Affiliated to National Council of State Agricultural Marketing Board, the NSAMB will face shortage of workforce once it becomes functional to the fullest capacity, Ikuto said.

After inaugurating the machines, Dimapur Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Soundararajan stressed on the need to create a stronger market linkage for the farmers to give them access to the market and sell their produce. “The target should not only be within the state but outside the NE region as well,” he added.

Ikuto said the machines would be used especially for ginger, turmeric, local chilly and king chilly besides fruits.
