Dimapur, May 31 (MExN): The NSCN (IM), during its ‘Emergency National Assembly’ on May 31, took the “Naga National Decision” where it declared to “uphold and protect Naga unique history and Naga national principle at any cost,” as “compelled by unpredictable political situation” in order “to save the future of the Nagas.”

“The meeting was held amidst tense moment and spontaneous upsurge of emotion,” the NSCN (IM) MIP stated in a press release on Tuesday, underscoring that the issues in connection with the Naga people’s political struggle of seven decades are “yet to be decided as the ongoing Indo-Naga political dialogue is in deadlock on the core issue of flag and constitution.”

Among others, the MIP stated that the Assembly unanimously decided to designate the third Sunday in October would be designated as ‘Naga National Prayer Day.’ A declaration document appended by Chairperson Q Tuccu, Vice-Chairperson Tongmeth Wangnao, and General Secretary Th Muivah was also released by the MIP.

As per the declaration, the Assembly led by the trio also reaffirmed the ‘Nagalim for Christ’ declaration stating that it was “God’s word revealed to the Nagas and the subsequent commitment of the Nagas to God.”

Future of Naga political journey in Framework Agreement: Q Tuccu
During the National Assembly on Tuesday, NSCN (IM) Chairperson Q Tuccu addressed the house, asserting that the “Naga people’s sovereign identity is very prominently reflected in the Framework Agreement.” He maintained that the NSCN (IM) had signed the Framework Agreement with deep political insight taking into consideration the Naga people’s sovereign rights and dignity and “applied our historical and political intuition while signing the agreement.”

However, there are forces at work trying to undermine the political significance of the Framework Agreement by giving wrongful interpretation, he said, while maintaining that few political leaders have been maliciously propagating that the Naga flag and Constitution, as well integration are not mentioned in the Framework Agreement. “The bitter irony is that every attempt is being made to confuse the Naga people on the political significance of Framework Agreement where the future of Naga political journey is laid out,” he added.

He also underscored that the National Assembly was necessitated for the NSCN (IM) to reaffirm its stand “after Government of India expressed opposition to honour the usage of our God given Naga national identity symbolized by Flag and Constitution.”

“How can we forfeit Naga national flag and Naga Constitution in the name of Naga political solution? What belongs to us that define our political identity can never be compromised for the sweet morsel in the name of Naga political settlement,” he asserted.

Tuccu went on to state that some Naga leaders have expressed derisive attitude towards the Framework Agreement by passing ‘demeaning and unhealthy comments against the sanctity of Naga political issue.’ “We cannot allow these people to defile Naga political issue by bringing another Naga political agreement with flattering promises as done in the past,” he said, referencing past political agreements with India, which according to him, “has given us bitter lessons.”

Terming it as “the hour of reckoning,” Tuccu stated that “we have to stand guard against any Naga accord that betrayed our rights and national identity.”

Stating that hundreds of thousands have given their lives for the Nagas’ freedom, he said that “the responsibility is heaped upon the shoulder of NSCN to fulfil their prayers and dreams for the honourable Naga political settlement with the Naga national flag flying high.”

“We have to prove ourselves before God and before the Naga people and the whole world that we the NSCN members, the frontline torch bearers of Naga political; movement shall stand the ground till the last man standing in defense of our God’s given rights,” he maintained.
