DIMAPUR, OCT 31 (NPN) : State-owned oil marketing companies (OMCs) increased the prices of petrol and diesel for the fourth consecutive day on Saturday offering no respite to fuel consumers.

According to a price notification of the OMCs, the prices of petrol and diesel were hiked by 35 paise per litre each pushing the rates to record high levels across the country.

After the latest rate revision, diesel has crossed the Rs.100-a-litre mark in all the districts in the state except Dimapur where it was retailing at Rs.99.88 per litre. (See table)

While petrol has already hit the Rs.100-a-litre mark or more in most of the states, diesel has touched that level in over one-and-a-half dozen states and UTs. Petrol and diesel prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of value-added tax (VAT).

OMCs revise the fuel rates on a daily basis, by taking into account the crude oil prices in the international markets, and the rupee-dollar exchange rates. Any changes in petrol and diesel prices are implemented with effect from 6 am every day.
