Preparations ramp up for Hornbill Festival

Preparation are underway at the main venue in Heritage Village, Kisama as Nagaland is set to kick off the 23rd edition of the 10 days Hornbill Festival which begins from December 1. 

Vice President of India, Jagdish Dhankar will be the chief guest of the inaugural programme. A line of dignitaries from different states along with embassies of various countries are set to attend the mega celebration. 

Speaking to media persons, Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister commented that all concerned organizers, be it the State Government, Tourism Department, different agencies and social organizations are doing their part and everything is on the right track and on schedule. 

As far as the events were concerned, over 100 items have been listed to be held at different locations, including cultural, social programmes, adventure, music and entertainment events, sales and exhibitions etc. 

Meanwhile, the morungs of the Eastern Nagaland tribes today remained deserted, in view of the boycott of the State Hornbill Festival by the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO). 

Metha also added that the festival this year is expecting a huge footfall as reports were coming in from travel agencies, hotel agencies that intake capacities are reaching the brim.

Some international dignitaries attending the Hornbill Festival as guests are Ambassador of Bulgaria, the Chargé d’Affaires of Columbia, the Vice Chairman of Toyota etc. One of the Judges of Masterchef Australia, Chef Gary Mehigan, Author and Restuarateur will be the chief Judge of Naga Chef, Season 9.
