Revitalizing tea industry in Wokha district

The three-day training programme cum workshop on packaging of tea for small tea growers, BLF and Estate factory held at Likya Community Hall, Wokha culminated on January 31. It was organised by Shishoi Oshom – Entrepreneurship Task Force (ETF), Cell Wokha, in collaboration with the Tea Board Regional Office, Golaghat, and the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP), Kolkata Centre.

The occasion saw engagement from local youths, including committed members of the Wokha District Small Tea Growers Association (WDSTGA), underscoring the community’s dedication to advancing their skills and expertise in the tea industry.

In the concluding session, Anuranjan Singh, Project Manager of Shishoi Oshom – ETF Cell Wokha, extended appreciation to the Tea Board Regional Office, Golaghat, and the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) Kolkata Centre for their crucial role in organising the skill training programs. He recognised their invaluable contribution to the initiative’s success, emphasising the significance of their collaborative efforts with Shishoi Oshom – ETF Cell Wokha.

Attendees were engaged in a series of interactive sessions, including hands-on practical training on tea packaging techniques using diverse materials and incorporating scientifically-proven methods. This learning experience was designed to furnish participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to excel in the art of tea packaging.

Moreover, the programme facilitated valuable exchanges between industry experts and participants, creating a collaborative environment conducive to innovation and growth within the local tea sector. 

A notable highlight was the visit by representatives from the Tea Board and IIP to tea gardens in Nungying and Longla Village, providing them with firsthand exposure to traditional tea practices demonstrated by the WDSTGA.
