DIMAPUR, SEP 19 (NPN): Nagaland on Saturday reported 35 new cases of COVID-19 positive cases– 23 in Dimapur, 10 in Kohima and 2 in Zunheboto, taking the tally to 5,392. Further, out of the 5392 positive cases, the distribution across various categories of people include 2513 cases from the armed forces/police, 1434 returnees, 324 frontline workers and 1121 traced contacts.
According to Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department’s weekly bulletin, the highest number of positive cases among traced contacts were in the age group of 21-30 years (32%) and 31-40 years (35%). The department said that these groups were very mobile/active and largely asymptomatic, who could be unaware of their status and spread the virus. It said that 17% of the positive traced contacts were students. The percentage of positive traced contacts had also shot up to 21% in the third week of September.
While complacency appeared to have set in after the ‘Unlock 4’ with non-adherence to standard safety measures, the department cautioned that positivity rate has continuously increased in the last 4 weeks reaching 12% in the past week.
