Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department, in its weekly bulletin report released on Saturday, said that the State recorded 43% spike in Covid-19 cases (832 cases) as compared to the previous week and also the highest since June 2021. Dimapur reported 72% of all cases, it added.

The State’s Weekly Sample Positivity Rate (WSPR) also witnessed a jump by 8% during the week (January 22 to 28)– from 11% to 19.1% with Tuensang reporting a surge of 25% from 0% the previous week, followed by Dimapur-23.2%, Wokha-21.2%, Kohima-15%, Peren-11.8% and Mokokchung-11.4%.

H&FW department has once again expressed serious concern that many cases were going unreported as those testing positive were not informing the agencies and conduct self-tests at home. The department said that those with symptoms (fever, cold like/flu like symptoms etc) should be considered Covid-19 positive unless tested negative at this stage of community transmission.

During the week, the State also reported 127% increase in new hospital admissions as 50 new patients were admitted as compared to 22 the previous week.

As of January 28, 13 patients were classified under severe/moderate category from Covid-19 hospitals.

Taking note of the rise in hospitalization and deaths, mostly those with comorbidities, H&FW stressed on the need for urgent vaccination of ‘at-risk’ groups and booster dose if eligible.

66 fresh Covid cases, 2 deaths: Nagaland on Saturday recorded 87 fresh Covid-19 cases while two more patients succumbed to the infection during the day.

Of the fresh cases, 66 were from Dimapur, 17 in Kohima and four in Tuensang, taking the total caseload to 34276. Further, two more patients died due to Covid-19 in Dimapur.

In the revised daily Covid-19 bulletin released on Saturday, the death toll stood at 711 including four non-Covid deaths but with positivity. Till Friday the death toll stood at 696 including 17 non-Covid deaths but with positivity.
