Stop extortion, illegal taxation once and for all: Nagaland Gov

Zunheboto, October 29 (MExN): Raising concern on the menace of extortion and illegal taxation by various groups, the Governor of Nagaland & Assam, Prof Jagdish Mukhi stated that “the public should come out in one voice to stop it once and for all.”

The Governor stated this during the interaction with the District Administration, District heads of department, civil society organisations, political parties, NGOs and business community at the DC’s conference hall, Zunheboto on October 28, stated a press release from PRO Raj Bhavan.

 “As the people of Nagaland longs for lasting peace,” the Governor hoped that ‘something good would come out soon in the interest of the public, with peace.’ “Nagaland as a state will be next to none,” he added.

The civil society organisations during the meeting, ‘presented’ a memorandum to the Governor with a message that ‘the public yearn for peace and political settlement at the earliest.’ He was apprised on the pathetic road connectivity of Zunheboto district and was urged to take up the matter with the State Government in priority. 

Meanwhile, the Governor stressed that ‘every farmer and their family should get value of their produce.’ He urged the Agri and allied departments to encourage the farmers to take up other income generating activities such as cattle rearing, poultry, plantation etc, besides farming. He urged the concerned departments to ensure that every farmer get access to soil card, seed, manure, pesticides and other assistance and thereby, encourage them to cultivate those crops which are suitable in their soil. 

He called on the Agri department to have an income statistics of the farmers and support the farmers to increase their yield by helping and assisting them in whatever way possible. He advised the district to encourage and give major importance in bamboo products and bamboo plantation. 

He further appealed to the district administration to monitor the flagship programmes of the centres that are implemented by various departments and agencies. 

He enquired on the status of universal electrification, Jal Jeevan Mission (supply of drinking water to every household), universal health care and PMAY-G (Housing for All) etc and how the departments are working to ensure the above schemes are implemented properly for the benefit of the public. 

“Health care is a very important sector,” he asserted while urging the medical department to organise blood donation camps which will also make the blood bank more efficient and successful. 

Later, he held a security review meeting with Police, Assam Rifles and SIB of the district. Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, IAS highlighted about the district and the schemes implemented in the district.
