Tenyidie storytelling session held in Kohima

Kohima, March 28 (MExN): The Cultural Club of Kohima College, Kohima collaborated with ‘Speak Tenyidie Project’ to host a storytelling platform at the College campus on March 26.

On the occasion, an audience of about 61 people gathered to listen to story tellers Zapuvisie Lhousa and Vizonyü Liezietsu who are both writers with multiple publications. The programme was chaired by Chathavino Sakhrie Chielie.

According to a press release on Sunday, octogenarian Lhousa shared traditional Tenyimia wisdom and his concern for the present generation. He told the audience that he retired from Naga national service in 1969 but his heart did not, and at 89, he is sharp and tireless; ‘not one to sit back and fade into the background of a fast changing world.’

The retired government official Liezietsu, with 13 book publications till date, has had an illustrative career in the Department of Agriculture. He is an external expert with the Board of Post-Graduate Studies in the Tenyidie Department under Nagaland University, the release stated.

Speak Tenyidie Project is an initiative started by Zedino Seyie Mepfhuo and Dr Neikehienuo Mepfhuo to encourage the younger generation to speak the Tenyidie language, as per the release. It has been functioning on the Instagram platform under the handle @speaktenyidieproject explaining the names of the alphabets, animals, birds etc. in Tenyidie.

This project is not academic in nature. It is solely to encourage the younger generation to converse in the Tenyidie language, it added.
