The official affiliation programme of Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) under Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) was held at Chang Khulei Setshang (CKS) Hall, Tuensang on March 26.
“We celebrate and accept the newly-recognised tribe. I would like to comment that the credit also goes to the Yimkhiung Tribal Council for showing the liberty of thinking,” stated ENPO President, R Tsapikiu Sangtam, officially declaring the affiliation in his presidential address.
“I appreciate the leadership of YTC and not forgetting our Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio who has come forward without any hesitation to declare a new district and recognise a tribe,” he added.
Appealing the ENPO tribal people to be “a true citizen of ENPO people,” Tsapikiu stated: “We may celebrate many jubilees over the years but that is not so important. The participation and the service you render to the organisation are very important.”
“It is high time that we come to realise the reality, the humility, the position we have,” he further asserted, addressing the ENPO leaders.
The president further said that one should not worship tribe, adding, the moment it occurs, people tend to become selfish.
“Respect your tribe, keep the dignity of your tribe and keep the sanctity of your tribe no one objects it but the moment you worship your tribe, you become selfish and acts as barbarians,” he maintained.
“We must be idealist people. We must look towards the greater goals of ENPO and from now on, the seven tribes must unite together as one and we will come to know how-to live-in unity and harmony,” he added.
Rev Achu Chang, Executive Secretary, Chang Baptist Lashong Thangyen and N Tialemba Phom, Executive Secretary, Phom Baptist Christian Association led the call for unity and closing prayer.
Short speeches were delivered by Presidents of Chang Khulei Setshang, Khiamniungan Tribal Council, Konyak Union, Phom People’s Council, United Sangtam Likhum Pumji, President, Yimkhiung Tribal Council, Eastern Nagaland Women’s Organisation, Eastern Nagaland Students’ Federation, Eastern Nagaland GB Union and Tikhir Tribal Council.
Among others, all the federating unit presidents of the Eastern Nagaland, ENSF, ENLU, ENGOA, ENWO, ENGBU, Eastern Nagaland DB Union and presidents of all sub units attended the function.
The programme was chaired by LN Konyak, Vice President, ENPO while invocation prayer was spoken by President, Tuensang Town Baptist Pastor Union. Welcome address was delivered by C Pamo NS Lam, Vice President, ENPO.
