DIMAPUR , September 26: Two-day national webinar on the topic, “entrepreneurial potentials of apiculture” was organised from September 24-25 by the department of Zoology, St. Joseph’s College (A) Jakhama in collaboration with IQAC of the college.
A press release by the college stated that at the inaugural session, keynote speaker associate professor, head of zoology department, Nagaland University, Lumami, Dr. Bendang Ao reflected on the theme and emphasised on beekeeping and its products including the important aspects in ecological generation and feasibility.
He also highlighted the status of apiculture in India, particularly in Nagaland.
At the technical sessions, resource person assistant professor, Department of Zoology, Assam Down Town University, Guwahati, Assam Dr. Seydur Rahman while speaking on the topic, “economic and scientific perspective of honey bee” discussed on various role of honey as valuable commodity and how it was used for medicinal purposes.
Resource person, assistant professor, department of zoology, Kohima Science College (A), Jotsoma, Dr. Limatemjen spoke on the topic meliponiculture, benefits of stingless bee and also its culture as to how it is practised in Nagaland. He encouraged the students on rearing the stingless bees in future.
Beekeeping entrepreneur, Guwahati, Rahul Bikram Das spoke on the topic, “journey from being a corporate professional to a beekeeping entrepreneur” and also shared about the process of extraction of honey.
A total of 135 students and some faculties from different colleges and universities participated in the webinar. The inaugural session was chaired by Dr. Ramita Sougrakpam, welcome address was delivered by principal of St. Joseph’s College (A) Jakhama, Rev. Fr. Dr. George Keduolhou Angami and concluded with a vote of thanks by dean of Science, St. Joseph’s College (A) Jakhama, Fr. Peter Solo.
