Western Angami Students’ Union to celebrate 75 years

The Western Angami Students’ Union (WASU) is gearing up to celebrate its 75th years of its existence from January 6 to 7 at WAPO Ground, Sechü Zubza in Kohima district.

Sechü Zubza lies 15 km from state’s capital Kohima.

WASU was formed in 1948.

It will be celebrated under the theme ‘Restrengthening our foundation’ with Sechü (Zubza) Students’ Union as host.

Around 2000 students from 11 units of WASU are expected to join the celebration, WASU and Central Organizing Committee (COC) officials told a press conference at Hotel Lavisto.

Introductory session, extravaganza night
Mhiesizokho Zinyii, former president Angami Public Organization will be the introductory speaker on January 6 from 2:00 PM onwards.

COC treasurer Rokophrezo Rino will lead the service for hoisting of WASU and Unit flags at 1:45 PM.

Introductory session will be led by Neidilhoutuo Sechii, co-convenor COC. Local Organizing Committee convenor Viketouzo Meyase will deliver welcome address while WASU former president Rajuselie Lhousa share “Reminiscence.”

Nomination committee convenor Ketouletuo Kuotsu will announce new team of WASU office bearers.

Tati and folk song will be presented by Jotsoma Students’ Union and Mezoma Students’ Union respectively. Medolepra Rino, catechist, Sechü (Zubza) Catholic Church and Kekuose Seyie, pastor AG Church Mengujuma will pray for the programme.

The session will be followed by extravaganza night at 5:00 pm. There will be free entry for spectators. This musical extravaganza will feature Dreamz Unlimited, Meneno Chiicha, Kevikhono Mor, Zuchobeni Tungoe, Mengu Suokhrie, Ruokuovinuo Solo, Kedovito Peseyie, Kezhabou Kuosa and Rokovi Khawakhrie. All the concerned have been invited to this musical extravaganza.

Main celebration on Jan 7
MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, leader of NPF Legislature Party and Co-chairman UDA, Government of Nagaland will be the special guest on January 7. He will inaugurate WASU Badze at 9:45 am and address the main celebration at 10:00 am.

MLA Keneizhakho Nakhro, chairman, Kohima District Planning & Development Board, the chief host of the celebration will also address the gathering.

Greetings will be shared by Western Angami Public Organization President, Kepelhoutuo Chiisi and Angami Students’ Union president Bisevi Angami. WASU President, Ketholezo Rino will deliver presidential address.

Release of WASU 75th year souvenir and jubilee feast will also mark the celebration.

COC convenor Khrielievi Chiisi will chair the main celebration function while COC secretary Aja Zinyii will lead WASU Badze inaugural function. The programme will also witness special songs from Sechü (Zubza) Students’ Union and Khonoma Students’ Union.

Toulie Sechii, pastor Sechiima Baptist Church and Peciivilie Kruneilie, pastor Peducha Baptist Church will pray for the programme. Vote of thanks will be proposed by finance committee co-convenor Theyievilie Suohumvii.

‘Restrenghening our foundation’
The theme “Restrenghening our foundation” has been coined by WASU to offer its salutation to the pioneers and also to reaffirm its commitment and put more challenges to face the various competitions ahead.

Meanwhile, Neidilhoutuo Sechii, co-convenor COC extended invitation to all WASU former presidents and colleagues , senior student leaders, public leaders, frontal organizations from Western Angami, Village council leaders, Angami Students’ Union, Chakhroma Students’ Union, Northern Angami Students’ Union, Southern Angami Students’ Union, village council leaders from to join the celebration.

All the elders above 75 years have also been invited to the celebration. “It is going to be a grand celebration,” he said.

All the delegates of 11 units have also been requested to put on atleast one traditional attire for the celebration especially on January 7. Aja Zinyii, secretary COC thanked all the well wishers and donors for their generous contribution towards the 75 years celebration.
