Mon, May 2 (MExN): The Konyak Union today categorically stated that the withdrawal of non-cooperation to Indian military forces does not mean ‘withdrawal of its demand for justice.’

The Konyak civil societies would not compromise with the demand for justice that was put forward to the President of India and the Konyak CSOs will steadfastly adhere to its decision to pursue until the justice is met, stated a statement from KU.

The core demand included identifying “all military forces/personnel of the 21 Indian para troopers involved in the killing of 14 Innocent civilians and book and punish under applicable civil court; Action taken report be put into public domain; and complete removal of AFSPA from the entire north eastern states of India.

“It is deeply felt that the comprehensive notion of withdrawal of non-cooperation is to restrain any development of adverse circumstances in law and order situation in the region while placing trust and confidence upon the peoples’ mandate authority and the peoples’ demand should not go futile,” KU added.

The imposition of “non-cooperation was expressing out peoples’ sentiments and “temporary withdrawal should not be taken as granted,” asserted the KU’s statement issued against the backdrop of the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) announcing the temporary withdrawal of non-cooperation to Indian security forces by the people of Eastern Nagaland on April 29.

It further questioned the state government as to why the action is not initiated as the Special Investigation Team (SIT) report on the incidents had already been submitted.

It should initiated a fast track delivery of justice as demanded by the people and as assured by Major General Vikas Lakhera, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) on February 7 at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner, Mon, the KU maintained.
The union further stated that the partial lifting of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in Nagaland is “not delivering justice as demanded by the Konyak CSOs.”

If there is delay in delivering justice as demanded while placing trust upon the concerned authority, the Konyak Civil society spearheaded by Konyak Union would break the trust and confidence and shall opt to resume the Non-Cooperation movement towards the Indian military forces, it added.
