Workforce shortage to be solved on genuine demand & need basis

With the emphasis laid by the State government to stop transmission of COVID-19 from urban to rural areas in the State, a review meeting was called by State Health Minister, S Pangnyu Phom at his office chamber secretariat on May 27.

The Minister took to Twitter to inform of the review meeting with the Principal Secretary, Secretary, Principal Director and senior officers from the department.

With reports of workforce shortage in various districts, Phom also informed that “representations from various NGOs regarding manpower shortage and grievances were deliberated in length and resolved to be solved on genuine demand and need basis.”

To take forward the government’s emphasis to prevent transmission from urban to rural areas, during the review meeting, it has deliberated on the roll out plan for delivery of COVID-19 services in peri-urban and rural areas.

The meeting discussed the need o set up Rapid Antigen Testing facility and oxygen supported bed in all sub centers, Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and Community Health Centers (CHCs) with doctors.

Further, the meeting also reviewed setting up of Community Covid Care Centers (CCC) in all villages for ‘asymptomatic cases with co-morbidities’ in village where there is CHO/GNM/MO, and linked to the nearest health facility with one dedicated functional ambulance.

It was informed that pulse oxygen and thermometer on loan basis will be provided to cases in home isolation and emergency oxygen facility in all community CCC as per requirement, while referral transport facility for confirm asymptomatic case to the testing centre to his/her own village to undergo community CCC or home isolation if property facility is at home.

To strengthen the fight against COVID-19, it has also decided to organise capacity building of all front line workers and health care workers, while monitoring of cases in community CCC and home isolation in village will be undertaken community task force with provisions of tele-consultation and tele-counseling services.

Information, Education and Communication (IEC) and Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) as well as surveillance activities in all villages have been entrusted to the community task force.
