‘World Hepatitis Day’ observed in Kma

DIMAPUR July 30: World Hepatitis Day was observed under the theme, “Hepatitis Can’t Wait” on July 28 at Tsosinsyu and Logwensunyu under Kohima district.

In a press release, medical department Kohima informed that Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kohima, Dr. Vezokholu Theyo spoke on the significance of the day.

Dr. Vezokholu Theyo said the day was commemorated each year to enhance awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes a range of health problems, including liver cancer.

In regard to COVID-19, sensitisation and awareness on the importance of early testing and treatment was highlighted by DIO (RCH/UIP) Dr. Rupert Peseyie Kohima.

He also stressed on stigma and discrimination which is hampering early testing as people tend to hide their symptoms, then importance of getting COVID-19 vaccine. He also urged the village GBs, elders and others to create awareness and get vaccination on Covid-19 vaccine.

Interaction and discussion with villagers were done with mass sample collection of 114 samples.

The programme was attended by village GBs, Elders, youth leaders, women group and NGOs adhering to COVID-19 SOPs.
