Young people urged to have global Mindset and strengthen education

Kvulo Lorin, Chairman, Nagaland Industrial Development Corporation Limited (NIDC) today encouraged young people to have global mindset and strengthen education and skill development to the need of the time while have ingenious concern for economy of the state. 

He was speaking as resource person at the inaugural function of the Khuzama Students’ Care Union (KSCU) 61st General Conference today at Khuzama Village, Kohima under the theme, ‘Beyond Borders: Shaping the future together.’

Emphasizing on the need to do and build things together, Lorin said anything cannot be done in isolation, no matter our strength, richness and skills are and further called on the need to be be open to the idea of change with changing circumstances, situations or with what is appropriate for the present scenario. 

Lorin also said the world has become so global in reality that we are able to see, communicate, make different types of transactions and relationships, or work and collaborate with anyone around the world through the quarters of our own home. 

He, therefore, said Nagas in general, should stop limiting our mindsets to “our tribe, our village, and just Nagas.”

Lorin cited that entrepreneurs for instance when they start a business only rigidly thinks about the Nagaland market which however is too small for sustenance. 

“We have to think of how to make a product that can attract the rest of India and learn to think beyond ourselves at the same time adopt the best ideas from them and see what we can do and not we mired by insecurities but push our products,” the speaker underscored.  

He said today students in Nagaland are going abroad for studies and venturing into broad subject not common to our region like learning foreign languages. 

“These kinds of options are open to everyone and anyone who are willing to do something for their future,” Lorin added. 

In an Instagram poll that was conducted by the speaker and participated by around 700 people, where options were given to participants to choose between government jobs, a startup or others, 30% responded government job, 46% opted for startup and the rest were others. 

Today, he said the context has changed so much that things have been changing in a very and fast pace. Lorin said the scope of education, therefore, has also widened and today there were countless number of specialized courses. 

The speaker asked the students to be very clear about what to pursue because the job market would keep changing and further asked them to get educated and get skills by having a global mindset. 

At the same time, Lorin encouraged the people to have an economic mindset where the contribution should not be of those who are considered rich like government employees or minister. The speaker said it was not how much one earns but about how much we can save, at the same time learning to save money and live within our economic means. 

The speaker also said one needs to learning about financial literacy which one should inculcate right from our college days. 

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Zevi Khizho, Publicity and Information Secretary and Thejangulie Sale, President KSCU delivered the welcome note and Tsahoro Group presented folk song.
