Government of India’s Interlocutor RN Ravi has been appointed as the new Governor of Nagaland, replacing Padmanabha Acharya whose term has ended.

The Centre Saturday appointed six new Governors in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Bihar, Nagaland and Tripura.

No one would have expected RN Ravi, who is representing Prime Minister Narendra Modi in peace talks with the NSCN (IM) and other NNPGs, to come to Nagaland as the new Governor.

With RN Ravi coming to Nagaland as Governor, uncertainty remains over the status of the Indo-Naga peace talks and the game-plan of Delhi as far as finding a solution to the Naga issue.

“The above appointments will take effect from the dates they assume charge of their respective offices,” said a communique from the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Earlier, The Naga Republic in a news analysis had questioned the way the Government of India was reducing the Naga talks from the Prime Minister level to the Minister of State level when outgoing Governor PB Acharya had recently met the MoS G Kishan Reddy.

The Naga Republic had also analysed this:

“Also it’s been now over two months since the new government in Delhi took office. But there is no official word on interlocutor RN Ravi and whether he continues”.

“There is every indication that the present Narendra Modi government has not only lowered the status of the Naga issue to the MoS level but even the role of RN Ravi, who is supposed to report to the Indian Prime Minister on the Naga issue, has reached a saturation point”, an earlier analysis had stated.
