Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) received an amount of Rs 1910.34 Lakh during the financial year 2017-18 as grants and works as per Drawal Authority issued by the Finance Department through seven DAs dated 29 March 2018 (2 DAs), 13 March 2018, 1 March 2018, 20 December 2017, 26 September 2017 and 24 April 2017.

This is as per information provided through RTI copies in possession.

The DAs were issued in favour of Health & Family Welfare Department under Demand No 35. Out of the total amount, Rs 162.36 Lakh was released under NEC for upgradation of casualty & diagnostic block.

Further, among the seven DAs, a DA dated 29 March 2018 mentioned about release of an amount of Rs 253.12 lakh for “Construction of District Hospital Kohima.”

Since the NHAK functions as the District Hospital, an autonomous multi-specialty hospital, it is confusing as to whether the amount was released for ‘construction’ of another District Hospital in Kohima or it was meant for NHAK.

All other DAs meant for NHAK clearly mentions “NHAK” in the DAs. If the amount was released for NHAK, it is yet to be known whether any new constructions were ongoing at NHAK.

The NHAK has also received an amount of Rs 531 lakh during 2018-19 as of 23 April 2018 which was the date the FD issued the DA as grants in favour of the Health & Family Welfare Department.

The Department’s website informs that the NHAK was established in 1905-06 as a 10-bedded dispensary and later upgraded to Kohima Civil Hospital with 60 beds.

The Hospital was conferred autonomous Status by the Government of Nagaland through the Naga Hospital Authority Bill, 2003 and declared functional on 1st April 2004 with the aim to develop it into a centre of excellence for providing the best health care facility at an affordable rate to the people at their very own doorstep.

Since, then the Hospital has been functioning as a District Hospital, Autonomous multi-specialty hospital with total bed strength of 300 with 22 specialties catering to a large number of cases from within and outside the state, it stated.

NHAK was certified International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2008 by the Indian Register Quality System and the certificate was handed over to the State Government on 15 February 2011.
